Aloha Kakou Mai Kapu Ka`u Mai
"Greetings from Sacred Ka`u"
The district of Ka`u covers over 922 square miles of sacred land that includes 80 miles of coastline on the south eastern
shore of the island of Hawai`i. Protecting Ka`u is vital to the survival of Hawai`i's unique island culture and fragile ecosystem.
It is where the first polynesians landed and where Hawai`i's longest undeveloped coastline remains entact. It is home to
some of Hawai`i's largest Heiau (ancient temple sites) and burial complexes.
We invite your support...
Our goal is to advocate the protection and preservation of the entire 80 miles of the Ka`u coastline and our sacred Ahupua`a,
(ancestral lands) from the mountains to the sea.
"Countless numbers of rare
species become extinct every year
in the Hawaiian Islands. Hawai`i
has become an ecological disaster."

On March 13th, 2006, J. Keolalani Hanoa went to sit with her kupuna to guide us so we can continue her work towards what
is pono for the preservation of the aina and the oiwi. On May 1st, 2007, Hawaii County Councilman Bob Jacobson introduced
to the County Finance Committee RESOLUTION 169-07 and suggested it be known as the "Keolalani Hanoa Resolution” in her
honor. The resolution calls for protection of the coastal areas and adjacent lands at Punalu`u utilizing the county's Public
Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund. It follows the Mayor's recommendation that Punalu‘u Beach
Park and adjacent lands become the number two priority for purchase.
JOIN the newly formed "Friends of Punalu`u" that will help create a long-term management plan for Punalu`u. Monthly

The mission is to protect
the endangered native ecosystems of
Ka`u. A home to countless endangered
native birds, insects, plants and
animals, including the threatened
honu and honu`ea (Hawaiian

of the most endangered animals
in the world. This includes estuaries,
ancient fishponds, freshwater
springs, shorelines, coastal
plains and mountain forests.

We envision perpetual protection of all
historic sites, ancient Hawaiian burials,
and the rich culture and heritage of Ka`u.
For the children...
Ka`u is a living classroom and educational resource that benefits present and future generations
A gift to the world...
Our guests will experience "Ka Noho Ana",
